It remains difficult to make sense of the tragedy of our friend David Joel Pichler passing away in February 2011. David deserved to see so much more of life than he did. His loyal friendship, sense of humor and intelligent wit are deeply missed.

In an effort to honor his memory in a way consistent with his life experiences and values, a group of his family and friends have created the David J. Pichler Memorial Scholarship Fund at Stuyvesant High School. The scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating senior at Stuyvesant who has excelled in mathematics and plans to attend Dartmouth College the following fall.

The scholarship highlights many aspects of David’s life. Both he and his sister Judy graduated fr om Stuyvesant and their mother Natalie is a retired teacher from the New York City Public School system. David graduated from Dartmouth with a degree in Mathematics and went on to use that knowledge towards a successful career in finance. David's father Hermann, who tragically passed away in 2016, had said how proud he was that David attended Dartmouth, and how grateful he was that it was made possible. We hope to be able to lighten the financial burden of many future Dartmouth students and help them realize their educational dreams.

The Scholarship Fund is a restricted endowment associated with the Stuyvesant High School Alumni Association, a 501(c)(3) organization. All donations are fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, and 100% of the Fund supports its beneficiaries.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about this remembrance and fundraising initiative.
